Happy June--Major coming to US!

More visitors have arrived recently—all have Zimbabwe roots, and they have been here visiting for a time.

Janelle Frayne, is a nursing student from Boise, Idaho.  She was born in Zimbabwe and raised here until 2009 when she went to go to college at Boise Bible College in Idaho.  Her grandparents are Dale and Linda Marshall who lived at Chidamoyo Christian Hospital when the first arrived in Zimbabwe in 1964, and then had a ministry in Chinhoyi until 2009.  They are now retired and living in Boise.  Janelle is starting her junior year of college in Nursing and is here to get some experience as well as visit family and friends.

Jesse Richardson, a friend of Janelle’s, also came to get some practical experience for her college degree in Occupational Therapy.  She graduates in December from Cape Town.   Her father and mother farmed in Karoi and lost their farm in the farm invasions.  They now rent property to farm in Karoi.  He has given us a ton of soybeans for years to help feed the patients here at the hospital.  Jesse came here about 2 years ago to do some clinical time with us.

A few days after they joined us Jonathan Fernandez joined us.  Jonathan just completed his second year of medical school and had a long break before school starts again in September, so he decided to come and get some experience at the hospital.  His friend, Kumbirai Heteckeri also joined him a few days later.

The girls and guys are busy helping in the hospital, going on rounds, helping scrub for operations and observing a lot of out-patient treatment.  They seem to be excited by all they see and do.  It will be great experience for all of them in their future careers.

On Wednesday this week Justin and Nicki Hess joined us.  They have been out with us several times before.  They are Zimbabweans who now live in Singapore and are involved in the Zimbabwe Rural Schools Development Program.  They have come to see the progress of school projects they have sponsored.  Major has been busy taking them out to the several school projects they have helped with.

The whole group went out to see a school near Major’s village yesterday and then went hiking to see a waterfall in the area.  They had tea and lunch at Major’s village and had a great day out in the bush!

We have been collecting a lot of containers that come here and we decided recently to turn one into a small guest house for hospital visitors.  We painted and put windows and a door in and it is ready to go to house visitors!

We recently received a very generous gift from Kirsty and Chris Withers. They asked all of their wedding guests to donate money to in their honor to Chidamoyo Christian Hospital.  Over $6,000 was raised for us.  We bought a very needed ultrasound machine that Dr. Cheryl Kellert is so happy!  It is benefiting so many patients who used to have to go over 3 hours each way to the nearest ultrasound.  Most had no money to go and so now we can do them right here.  They also donated 500 pair of surgery gloves which has kept us going in our theater so we could keep operating!  We are so thankful to them for these generous gifts?
