Major's Birthday, Visitors from North Carolina, New Support groups for kids

On Wednesday this week we celebrated Major's 51st birthday.  We started with his favorite breakfast of  French toast and then had Snicker cupcakes and then dinner of chicken friend steak and mashed potatoes and gravy!  We celebrated with cake for all after Bible Study.

Thursday the doctor was gone to Harare to get his certificates and so it was a very busy day for me.  Lots of very sick patients and lots of procedures to do.  I tapped fluid out of one man's lung and it was 6 liters!

Thursday Fanny Nyamutora, a local young man who is now a minister in Gweru, came with a group of 10 from Mid-Atlantic Christian University in North Carolina.  They spent 2 nights in his village home and they came to see the hospital and 2 went out on Immunization and ART clinic with our team.  That night we had them over for a braii (BBQ).  It was a quick visit, but it was nice meeting new people.

Friday we had new support groups for our kids who are on ART drugs.  All of these kids were born with AIDS and we want to give them a chance to meet and have a chance to talk about having AIDS.  We divided them into 3 groups of Ages 5-8 and 9-14 and 15-19 years.  We had 34 kids total who attended and our counselors worked with the groups.  We are thankful for sponsor of these groups through a grant from Rosemary and Roses group in Seattle.  The kids had a great time and enjoyed a drink and a packet of cookies together.   We hope to do this group every 2 months for each of the ages.

The famous Chidamoyo hat and pin everyone must wear on their birthday!

 Happy Birthday Major!

  1. Cathy! You left a deep impression on my life during our visit to Chidamoyo last week. It is not every day I meet someone who has didicated their whole life to such an admirable mission. Thank you so much for allowing me to assist iin the baby and HIV clinic, and for the wonderful hospitality shown to our group at your home. American food had never tasted so wonderful, though the Nyamuturas definitely fed us well while in Zimbabwe. I hope to come back some day and will be filling my church in at the end of this month concerning the awesome work you all do at Chidamoyo Christian Hospital!
