A new fence and a new digital X-ray machine

Exciting things are happening at Chidamoyo Hospital this week.  We are having a fence put in at the hospital to keep animals and thieves out and control the visitors.  We are also fencing off the diesel tanks where we keep diesel for hospital in and fencing my house to  protect our vehicles that are kept there at night.

We have not had any problems but with people so desperate we have seen the need to be preventive.  The fence was paid for by RBF which we get for our work that is paid based on amount of work we do as well as quality and is used to improve the hospital.  The Friends of Chidamoyo paid for the fence at my house to protect all the vehicles we park there at night,  which is great.  Thanks to all who helped with this.

Also this week they came to install the Digital X-ray machine that has been donated by the Japanese Embassy.  It took a long time to be sent from South Africa and to clear customs.  We fought for 5 months to not have pay  duty and customs since it was not equipment to make money on, but for the people of Zimbabwe.  After several appeals they released it without duty and customs!  We kept praying hard for that!

Now the company came on Tuesday to install it and are still working today (Saturday)!  We are so excited it will be installed soon.  We are planning with the embassy to have a dedication ceremony in the next few weeks as they hand over the project to us.  This will make a big difference in the cost of each X-ray and no more transporting films, developer and fixer liquids all the way from Harare each time.  We still have our other X-ray machine for back-up.

We are still hot and dry here.  After hearing about the Noreastern and snow and cold on the East coast of US, we are sweating away and with fans on and wishing for that cold weather!  Carolyn called this week to tell us we don’t know what cold is!  They have been having below freezing temperatures in Kentucky and she used to complain when it got down to 50 degrees here in our winter!  She has lots of layers on whenever she is talking to us on the phone!  I’m looking forward to pool time this afternoon after work!
