Saying Goodbyes

This week was busy with undergraduate students here from the University of Illinois, Urbana/Campaign.  We kept them busy helping in all departments, seeing 2 C/Sections, watching normal deliveries and traveling out to do Immunization Clinics as well as a weeklong HPV vaccination clinic for girls 10-14 years of age.

They were kept busy in the many activities and seemed to enjoy it.  We wore them out as they were ready for bed by 8 p.m. most nights!  Breakfast started at 0645 so they had a long day!

Friday (yesterday), we said goodbye to Elliot Harris who has been with us since 3 February!  He left for a couple of days in Harare before he flies home to Seattle on the 2nd of June. He was very helpful at the hospital and at home so we will miss him a lot and wish him well as he prepares to apply for medical school!

This morning (Saturday,) our University of Illinois group left for 3 more days visiting in Zimbabwe before they head for home on Tuesday.  I asked if they were anxious to leave and one girl said, “I can’t wait to get back to internet service!” I guess we weren’t as exciting as Internet!

Today was our ART clinic for under 12-year olds and we saw about 45 kids.  I was drawing blood for viral loads for those that needed it.  They were excited to come, and the University group brought us two huge bags of sweets, so everyone got a sweet!

Electricity went off by 6 a.m. this am and has been off all day but trying to get all the sheets washed and towels as the next group of 4 visitors arrive tomorrow. I’m on load number 3 now. It finally came back at 6:30 p.m.

I came home at 12:30 p.m. and took a 2-hour nap I was so tired!

Winter is here and it is getting down to low 50’s at night.  Last night was our coldest with it getting down to 51.  I put my electric under blanket and my winter blanket and duvet on the bed today so I am now in winter!
