Trusting Him One Day at a time!
Have you ever had the chance to step out in faith, trusting wholly
in God? As Christians we say that we
walk in faith each day, but do we really do that and without feeling
anxious? Today I read in my devotional:
When
something in your life or thoughts makes you anxious, come to Me and talk about
it. Bring Me your prayer and petition
with thanksgiving saying: “Thank You, Jesus, for this opportunity to trust You
more.” Though the lessons of trust that
I send to you come wrapped in difficulties, the benefits, far outweigh the cost.
(Jesus Calling by Sarah Young, p. 64)
We have
been struggling at the hospital since last year when government funding which
we count on for drugs and other essential items at the hospital, stopped in
July 2012. There was no explanation
except that we all know the government is broke. All the material wealth of the country seems
to have disappeared into leaders pockets and there is no money for social programs. We survived by our barter system to feed our
patients and as we had money we bought drugs here and there, some medical
equipment came in a container and God seemed to provide to keep us going. Last week we came to the realization we just
could not carry on without making a major order for drugs.
I wrote
out an order for drugs that would help us for at least a month and sent it off
to the company to see the cost—it came back $12,000! Wow! I
sat down to chop away and finally got it down to just a little under
$6,000. Each day we hoped that the
government would come through with money!
We prayed, we thought, we prayed some more. We contacted the company and told them to
bill the government hoping that money from the government might come through to
provide for that cost, if not we would have to pay! They agreed but told us that we had 3 weeks
to pay if the government didn’t pay!
We have
never bought anything before knowing we didn’t have the money in the bank to
cover it! This was very anxiety
producing for the doctors, Major and I.
We were putting all out there to trust Jesus more!
The day
we received the order a man came in to the hospital in severe distress due to
congestive heart failure. That morning
we didn’t even have a single diuretic to give him. We dug through the packages and found the IV
Lasix we had ordered and started him on treatment. Today he went home. The day before he would have gone home in a
coffin! Working without simple medicine
we know can save lives is very distressing to all of us and we were to the point
where people were going to die without some basic medicine.
We
decided we had to get these medicines now and trust that God will provide in
His timing and in the right way. We are
walking in faith. We have the assurance
that what we ask for in His name will be provided. We have to just trust him one day at a
time. We trust him in all circumstances
and know He will make us victorious.
We await the exciting conclusion to his story!
Major and Kathy
